UPCOMING EVENTS

  • On Thursday, March 14, 1:30pm EST, the House of Representatives Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security will hold a hearing titled The Separation of Nuclear Families under U.S. Immigration Law.  Click here for more information and to watch the live webcast.
  • On Monday, March 18, 2:00pm EST, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing titled How Comprehensive Immigration Reform Should Address the Needs of Women and Families.  Senator Mazie Hirono will chair the hearing and AAJC’s Executive Director, Mee Moua, will testify as a witness.  Click here for information and to watch the live webcast.
  • Reminder: Be sure to calendar March 25-April 5, the State Work Period for members of Congress – this would be an excellent time to conduct legislative visits and contact members in their district offices about AAPI concerns for immigration reform.

OTHER UPDATES

  • On Tuesday, March 3, the House of Representatives Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security held a hearing titled Hearing on Enhancing American Competitiveness through Skilled Immigration.  Click here to see the letter that the Asian American Center for Advancing Justice sent to Subcommittee leadership, which was also submitted into the record.
  • Beginning March 4, certain immigrant visa applicants who are the spouses, children and parents of U.S. citizens and have been unlawfully present in the United States, can start applying for provisional unlawful presence waivers through a new process. The new process is expected to shorten the time U.S. citizens are separated from their immediate relatives while those family members go through the process of becoming legal permanent residents of the United States.
